Haemostasis Service

​​The Haemostasis service provides thrombosis management across a range of services. 

Patients with acute venous thromboembolism (VTE) and those requiring anticoagulation for peri-operative procedures are treated on an outpatient basis.  It is also the comprehensive haemophilia treatment centre for the South Island providing outpatient care for patients and families with inherited bleeding disorders.

The service also provides genetic diagnosis of the haemophilias, carrier diagnosis and pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (where applicable) for patients with inherited bleeding disorders. 

It is a nurse-led service and includes a clinical nurse research coordinator.  The service is overseen by Dr Mark Smith who specialises in thrombotic and bleeding disorders.
