The Haematology Outpatient service is located in the Canterbury Health Laboratory Building on the corner of Hagley Avenue and Tuam Street.
Outpatient clinics are held every week day with a Haematology Consultant or Registrar.
The Outpatient Registered Nurse is available to perform minor procedures and answer patient queries, phone (03) 364 0384.
If you are unable to keep your appointment, please advise the Outpatient receptionist on (03) 364 0384 as soon as possible so we can use this time for other patients.
On arrival, please check in with the Outpatient receptionist.
A blood test is often required prior to your appointment with the health professional i.e. doctor or nurse. This will be stated on your appointment letter.
We try to ensure you are seen as near to your appointment time as possible, however sometimes there are unavoidable delays.
Occasionally you may be required to have other blood tests, x-rays or other tests. This means that you may spend longer at the hospital than you may have anticipated.
You will have your proposed treatment clearly explained to you, including the risks involved in any treatment and any alternative treatments, before you decide whether to go ahead with the proposed treatment.
If you don’t understand something the doctor is saying or there is something that is worrying you please tell the doctor.
You may be asked to be involved in a clinical trial, if so, this will be clearly explained to you.
Occasionally you may not be seen by your usual Consultant, but by another member of the Haematology team.
On leaving, please check in with the Receptionist to advise her if you need another appointment or not.
Car parking at Christchurch Hospital is limited. Please allow time to find a park. There is limited free 90 minute car parking outside the Canterbury Health Laboratory building.
There are metered street parks available, the charges are advised on the payment machines which accept coins, EFTPOS and credit card payment.
