Oral Health Programme

Improve oral health for tamariki and rangatahi.

Regular dental care has lifelong health benefits. As less than 5% of children in Canterbury have access to fluoridated water, prevention and education initiatives are essential to good oral health.

Good oral health also indicates early contact with effective health promotion and reduced risk factors, such as poor diet. Māori children are three times more likely to have decayed, missing or filled teeth. Oral health therefore presents an opportunity to reduce inequalities and improve the targeting of those most in need.
