Plan your trip to Christchurch Hospital

Monday August 4, 2014

Plans are well underway for the redevelopment of Christchurch Hospital. Site preparation works for the new Acute Services building are due to begin in mid-September, which means there will be some changes to road layouts and parking.

Canterbury DHB has a dedicated team working on this and several options for parking are in development. We are working on remodelling of traffic flows on the hospital site, and we are assessing several options including a park and ride scheme, as well as increasing the number of volunteers available to help people arriving at the hospital.

As these parking options involve a multi-agency approach, CDHB is working with the Christchurch City Council, CERA, Christchurch City Development Unit (CCDU) and landowners to find the best solution that will meet everyone's needs.
It's important to note we are still in the planning process and once we confirm details we will put into effect a comprehensive public awareness campaign around what's happening with parking, as we acknowledge the importance of keeping the public closely informed about this issue.

In the meantime, plan your trip to the hospital. Help be a part of the solution by choosing alternative forms of transport wherever possible, or having a designated driver to take you to or from hospital. Perhaps you could get a friend or family member to drop you off, or if you are fit and able, use one of the many buses that stops right outside the hospital entrance. There are 11 bus routes from around the city that pass the hospital.

Car parking is available at the former Old Brewery site on the corner of St Asaph and Antigua St. Parking around Christchurch Hospital is challenging for patients, visitors and staff. So while this is not a new issue, we appreciate that it will be even more challenging during the next three years of construction.

Parking information will be updated regularly on the car parking page of our website.
