What We Do
The Design Lab is opening the doors to patient-centred health care.
It's a space where clinicians, engineers, architects and user groups are rethinking how health services are provided.
The work being undertaking at the Design Lab is underpinned by extensive research. Interviews were done with 135 patients and their families to find out what they wanted from their environment when they were in hospital.
Building on that knowledge, teams also visited facilities around the world, including aircraft manufacturers to learn what they could about maximising space. The Design Lab is the place where your ideas come to life and are tested and refined to see how they perform in 'real life' situations.
Word of the Design Lab has spread and visitors to the Middleton site include the Queensland Premier, Campbell Newman and a team from Mid Central DHB.
TV 3 reporter John Sellwood visited the Design Lab and watched a simulation in progress. He interviewed Business Development Manager Richard Hamilton and Nurse Manager Nicky Topp for a story that was broadcast on Campbell Live.
The Design Lab has been used to mock up a new concept for hospital administration areas. Take a virtual tour of the space with Burwood’s General Manager Older Persons, Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Dan Coward as he explains how CDHB plans to create engaging and stimulating spaces that support a collaborative work environment.
