Pharmacy Project

With removal of the Close Control rule last July, pharmacists have much more responsibility for deciding how best to support people to manage their medications. This will require Pharmacists to play a larger role in the primary care of people with long-term conditions.

These changes will lead to a much closer relationship between pharmacies and prescribers. In addition, many pharmacists in Canterbury are now able to give smoking cessation advice and to provide funded nicotine replacement therapy. There is no change to the service provided by pharmacies for people on Methadone and Clozapine.

Planning and Funding are heavily involved in supporting these changes as part of a three year plan.
